Originally from Chiayi, Taiwan, Astrid Tseng began her journey into theatre in 2003 through her involvement with the Chiayi Girls’ Senior High School Theatre Club. That same year, she participated in the national youth short play competition “Super Lanling King”, organized by Taiwan’s Council for Cultural Affairs, where she received both the Best Individual Creative Performance Award and Outstanding Team Award, marking the beginning of her performing arts career. She holds a BFA in Acting from the School of Theatre Arts at the Taipei National University of the Arts. From 2013 to 2015, she studied at the renowned École Philippe Gaulier in France, completing the full performance program. Her training spans a wide range of disciplines including Shakespeare, Chekhov, neutral mask, Greek tragedy, commedia dell’arte, full-face mask, melodrama, bouffon, clown, and comedy. In 2017, Astrid joined Dr. Rednose, an organization of healthcare clowns in Taiwan, bringing warmth and laughter to patients and medical staff through improvised performances in hospitals. Since 2022, she has also collaborated with the French company Compagnie Corps de Brume, continuing to participate in hospital clowning projects in France, extending her compassionate work across languages and cultures. As an independent performing artist, she works across theatre, screen, and live performance. She is also active in teaching and leading workshops. At the personal request of Philippe Gaulier, she has served as assistant teacher and interpreter during his masterclasses in Taiwan. Astrid has performed at international theatre festivals and tours in France, the UK (including the Edinburgh Festival), and China. In Taiwan, she has appeared in long-running productions with a total of over 105 consecutive performances. She currently lives between Taiwan and France, continuously exploring how the art of performance can serve as a bridge to genuine human connection. |
